Locating the Precise Sources of High‐Frequency Microseisms Using Distributed Acoustic Sensing

چکیده
Although microseisms have been observed for more than 100 years, the precise locations of their excitation sources in oceans are still elusive. Underwater Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) brings new opportunities to study microseism generation mechanisms. Using DAS data off coast Valencia, Spain, and applying a cross-correlation approach, we show that high-frequency (0.5–2 Hz) confined between 7 27 km from shore, where water depth varies 25 m. Over time, observe these move quickly along narrow areas, sometimes within few kilometers. Our methodology applied allows us characterize with high spatiotemporal resolution, providing way understanding global complex seismic phenomena happening oceans.

Locating Data Sources in Large Distributed Systems
Querying large numbers of data sources is gaining importance due to increasing numbers of independent data providers. One of the key challenges is executing queries on all relevant information sources in a scalable fashion and retrieving fresh results. The key to scalability is to send queries only to the relevant servers and avoid wasting resources on data sources which will not provide any re...

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Feasibility of Locating Leakages in Sewage Pressure Pipes Using the Distributed Temperature Sensing Technology
The cost effective maintenance of underwater pressure pipes for sewage disposal in Austria requires the detection and localization of leakages. Extrusion of wastewater in lakes can heavily influence the water and bathing quality of surrounding waters. The Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) technology is a widely used technique for oil and gas pipeline leakage detection. While in pipeline lea...

Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) uses an optical fiber together with an interrogator unit to perform strain measurements. The usage of DAS in geophysics is attractive due to its dense spatial sampling and low operation cost if the optical fiber is freely accessible. In the borehole environment, optical fibers for DAS are often readily available as a part of other sensing tools, such as for te...
